Alligator sightings expected to increase in Arkansas

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (KTHV) -- They're big, they're scaly, and they've been seen scurrying near Caddo Valley.

Alligators are here in Arkansas and experts say run-ins with them will only get more common.

On Sunday night, one was found wandering around Highway 67 near the border of Arkadelphia and Caddo Valley. Game and Fish as well as Arkadelphia police quickly responded and apprehended the reptile, moving it into a safe area.

"Yeah it was a shock," said William Burke, who owns a store right near the spot where the alligator was seen. "It's been the talk."

"You know males, they'll cross dry ground going pond to pond looking for females, which they're doing right now," added Game and Fish state alligator coordinator Mark Barbee.
